Roberto Carlos Sanchez AlvarezFour Avilanian chess players confirmed their participation in the open set of the upcoming José Raúl Capablanca International Tournament, to be held in Havana during the first half of May.

FIDE Master Roberto Carlos Sanchez Alvarez, with an international norm, is topping the selection. He will try to improve his highest Elo coefficient, amounting to 2 410 points, besides the possibility of attaining another IM norm.

Another FM, Rodney Hernández Noa, should appear in the contest with a rating of 2 303 units, and although he might spring the surprise of an IM norm, his primary duty will lie in further increasing the strength in the game to be included in a close period among the 40 national list pointers, as Sánchez did.

For the good of local women's chess, Expert Keilyn Becerra Licor, a provincial winner, was invited to the tournament. This player has just had a modest performance in the recently concluded National Youth Contest in San Nicolás de Bari, and needs to compete more often to return to the elite of her category.

Fans from Morón will have, as their representative at the Capablanca, Expert Isnel Fajardo Leiva, who won the right for being a national champion of the National Association of the Deaf (ANSOC).

Ciego de Ávila has taken part in the last competitions of the oldest chest event in the Americas through the form of open tournaments, but there is the disadvantage that a considerable part of the cost of transportation, lodging and meals are at the account of the chess players.
