womenThe Federation of Cuban Women (FCW) in the central province of Ciego de Ávila celebrates its 52nd anniversary with an increase of more than 2000 members from August last year to date.

"By August 23, the organization will have more than 2,000 self-employed women and about 840 covered by the Decree Law 259, particularly in working with cattle, miscellaneous crops and livestock," as expressed by Odalys Álvarez, a member of the FCW Secretariat.

Among the main tasks to be carried out to celebrate, the leader highlighted the strengthening of management in the Counseling Houses for Women and Families, and the effort to engage the federation members in the prevention of diseases like dengue and tuberculosis. 

Mercedes Martínez, an official of the Provincial Committee of the FCW, expressed that the organization is also taking part of the provincial summer activities with the implementation of 42 training courses in hairdressing, massage, health, sexuality, alcoholism and smoking.

The courses are taught by specialists and colleagues in the counseling houses of and are primarily aimed at high school students of either sex and are completely free.

Since its founding by Fidel Castro on August 23, 1960, the organization has contributed, by means of working with the communities, to the cultural upgrading of women and their active participation in the Cuban society.
