religionA fruitful encounter between a representation of the Grand Lodge of Cuba of Free Ancient and Accepted Masons, and the Provincial Committee of the Party, took place recently in Ciego de Ávila, as a way to strengthen the relationships and meet the current projections of that fraternal organization present in Cuba.

On behalf of the politic body, the lodge members were welcomed by Félix Duarte Ortega, the official of the Party Bureau in charge of the ideological sphere, who praised the meeting as positive, as long as "it allows a deeper mutual understanding".

He stressed the need for unity of all social factors, before the challenge of improving Cuban society at present and retrieving values, starting from the family in Cuba, "to get the people more united and educated, which is one of the greatest assets we have, " when working for giving continuity-in compliance with the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution, and the results of the Conference-to " the ideological political work with the new generations, for the country to move forward in building socialism, " he said.

On behalf of the Masons, the newly elected, very respectable and illustrious brother, Grand Master Rubén Gutiérrez Evaristo Torres had the floor. He appreciated the opportunity of the meeting (the first at this level in the provine), and recalled that the aims of Freemasonry are, indeed, to promote good feelings among men, beyond any philosophical or religious position, for the sake of human betterment from an ethical, civic and moral perspective, to enable men to better serve the society of which they are part.

He explained the way the Grand Lodge of Cuba operates, and said that the organization currently has 118 branches in the country and 21 high officials representing them, who together decide that the projections of that fraternal association.

The Grand Master also looked back over the years and, among the many figures who combined their feeling as Masons with their social commitment to the homeland, he mentioned José de la Luz y Caballero: "He said that anyone can teach, but only he who is a living Gospel can educate we want our current work to be another contribution to the shaping and retrieve of ethical and moral values in young people today. Freemasonry has that challenge now more than ever and we want to accomplish it," he said.

The meeting was also attended by Teresa Mora Robell, head of the Ideological Department of the Provincial Party Committee, and Omar Martínez, the official in charge of religious affairs and relations with fraternal associations at that level.

Among the visitors, were also present ex Grand Master Osmundo Cabrera Pérez, the Deputy of Grand Master Juan Lázaro Gonzalez Valdés; Rogelio Ibáñez Cabodevilla, high treasurer, and Ernesto Zamora Fernández, Grand Master of Ceremonies, who joined the delegation that visited Ciego de Ávila in representation of the Grand Lodge of Cuba.

Among the local leaders, were present Guillermo Rodríguez Cárdenas, Grand Officer of the province of Ciego de Ávila; Jose Marante, a member of the Leonor Pérez Lodge, in Florencia, and Eduardo Aquino Pérez, secretary of the Workers Lodge in Morón.

After the meeting, Mora Robell, on behalf of the Party, welcomed the exchange of views that will allow joint work among Cubans with the common purpose of achieving the unity of all the people and building a more just society.

The current directors of the Grand Lodge of Cuba of Free Ancient and Accepted Masons, which is projected under the precept of "unity and continuity", paid this visit to the province as part of a strategy that allows a fluid relationship at all levels, both within the organization itself and with the rest of the country's social actors. The visit will also make possible to meet the local problems of that institution, in order to work in an orderly and coherent way, according to its purposes, for the common good of the human, an essential objective of their existence.
