Just two and a half months after his premature birth at the Roberto Rodríguez Provincial Teaching Hospital, in the municipality of Morón, in Ciego de Ávila, baby Ángel Jesús Matos Matos weighs 2 000 grams and shows a favorable state.
The boy, born in January, after a gestation period of 29 weeks, is fed through a combination of breast and artificial milk, and has no complications.
Dr. Dewys Doné Díaz, head of the neonatology services at the healthcare institution, said his quick recovery has been favored by the absence of disabling diseases such as intracranial hemorrhage, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, prematurity retinopathy and severe infections, but he is currently treated with antibiotics to counteract a mild external otitis.
According to the doctor's considerations, once the smallest child saved at the Morón hospital in recent years, with 900 grams at birth is discharged, he will be treated in the Early Assistance Office, where he will be the object of a cerebral ultrasound, electroencephalograms and other tests. He will also be monitored by speech therapists, psychologists and other specialists.
The doctor emphasized the importance of the work to be done by family physicians in these cases, who are responsible for visiting the children and be aware of their health and the care given when they start their family life, so complications may be avoided and their quality of life be ensured.
