elecciones6The last meetings for delegates to account for their accomplishments before their constituents, for the fourteenth term of office of the People's Power Municipal Assemblies, will take place during April 15 to June 30 in the province of Ciego de Ávila. Therefore that governmental structure is getting ready for the next meetings.

What is essential at this moment is to thoroughly review the status of implementation of the proposals or concerns raised by the population in prior processes, as reported at the meeting of the Provincial Assembly of the People's Power.

This will allow the administrative departments to give occasional solutions to pending complaints and also to have an idea as to what leaders must accompany the delegates at meetings by areas.

In 2011, voters in Ciego de Ávila, where the population is 423 000 inhabitants, 22 040, proposals were made aimed at state institutions, 7 243 made during the meetings and 14 797 in direct contact with the delegates.

The main complaints are related, among others, to difficulties with water supply, the poor condition of roads and paths, and concerns regarding the electric service, assistance to communal areas and the need for home repair.

According to the performance standards of the local organs of the People's Power, the delegates, who make up the municipal assemblies, are empowered for two and a half years, during which period they should account for their activities before the residents of the demarcation at least twice a year.

In contrast, the delegates who make up the Provincial Assemblies and the members of Parliament may keep their position for five years.
