New species such as the Cuban pygmy-owl, the Bahamian duck, the Florida duck (Aix sponsa) and the caraira can be appreciated at the Zoo of Ciego de Ávila, as part of the options in the summer stage.
Randolph Delgado Fernández, a veterinarian of the institution, reported that a Caribbean black monkey and three peacocks born in the park are also on display. A striped hyena will soon be on the list.
Delgado expressed that one of the main attractions is a zebronkey, a hybrid of zebra a donkey, that healthily grows in the zoo, while awaiting the arrival of a male nilgo antelope to mate it in its reproductive stage.
Luis Mayo, a visitor to the facility and resident of the municipality of Chambas, expressed his satisfaction over the atmosphere of the place, but suggested the increase of gastronomic products during the holidays.
Maikel Brito Prado, economic manager of the center, said it is expected to provide new services in the coming months, such as guided tours, veterinary practice, leasing of rooms for parties and birthdays, and the sale of pets.
In order to preserve species in captivity, the Ciego de Ávila Zoo regularly promotes actions, such as educational talks, the training of workers, as well as the "Clean Up the World" and "Grow for the planet" campaigns.
