The community's role in a wide area, located north of the province of Ciego de Ávila and linked to the Sabana-Camagüey Project, has had a great impact on the protection and sustainable use of biodiversity, and the reduction of risks related to natural disasters caused by climate change.

Celso Pazos Alberdi, territorial delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (MSTE), said that local community actions are especially relevant facts, mainly in the municipalities of Bolivia, Morón and Chambas. These actions are also extended to the territories located south of the province, in which local governments have approved programs for the sustainable management of the coastal zone.

The activities are aimed at children, adolescents and adults and aim at the transmission of knowledge through lectures, and workshops in schools and workplaces, as well as companies and organizations of that geographical area.

There has been some improvement in the harmonious integration among sectors like Tourism, Sugar, Forestry, Agriculture and Fisheries, with a more active participation in the processes of conservation and restoration of ecosystems.

He also cited, as another important action, the Cleaning the World campaign, in which many people have participated. This campaign has also taken place for over a decade in coastal areas of the rest of the country through concrete sanitation actions.

According to Pazos Alberdi, people need to be taught environmental issues by means of systematic interactive projects that may achieve the transformation of the environmental problems identified in each locality, with the aim of improving the quality of life of the population.

"The risks of climate change, he argued, are perceived very differently by people, hence the need to raise awareness at the community level to minimize those risks and, at the same time, implement actions face the new climatic scenarios.
