Ciego de Ávila, the capital city of the province that bears the same name, is located amid the territory, at a similar distance from the 10 municipalities into which the province is devided.
The capital municipality is 444, 64 square kilometers and is the biggest and more important population core, with 137 646 inhabitants.
Morón is the second city in importance --with almost all the tourist facilities associated to the outstanding destination Jardines del Rey (King’s Gardens). It is located center-north, comprises 615, 09 square kilometers and has 61 766 inhabitants.
Ciro Redondo municipality, with 29 653 inhabitants and 588, 05 square kilometers, is located between Ciego de Ávila and Morón.
Chambas, the third settlement in importance, is located on the northwest end of the provincial territory, with 41 057 inhabitants and 778,61 square kilometers
South of Chambas is located Florencia, the so-called municipality of beautiful landscapes, the only mountainous zone of the province, with 21 263 inhabitants and 286,07 square kilometers.
Majagua is located Southwest, with 543, 69 square kilometers and 26 684 inhabitants; Venezuela, a great cane sugar producer, is located center-south. It has 28 466 inhabitants and 716 square kilometers.
Baraguá is another municipality with huge sugar cane plantations. It is located southeast of the province, inhabited by 32 291 residents on 728, 17 square kilometers.
Bolivia, the largest and less populated municipality, is located northeast, with 16 471 inhabitants on 917 square kilometers, while Primero de Enero, located on the east-central zone, occupies 712, 67 square kilometers with 29 205 inhabitants.
Ciego de Ávila has a medium surface regarding the remaining 13 provinces making up the Republic of Cuba. The territory has 6 320, 92 square kilometers without including the adjacent keys --6 910, 36 with the keys -- and is the second less populated in the country (surmounted only by Cienfuegos).
