literaturaWith the presentation of three new books, the Ávila publishers celebrated the 12th anniversary of their inception and added to the summer options offered by the rest of Avilanian cultural institutions.

The works available to the public since August 13th, the birthday of the editorial house, are Memoria dorada y otras variaciones (golden memory and other variations) by Servilio Parra; Áridas palabras (arid words) by José Rolando Rivero, and Las Horas inertes (the inert hours) by Heriberto Machado.

Masiel Mateo, a specialist of the Raúl Doblado Literary Promotion Center, reported that the commemoration began on last August 6 with a tribute to Virgilio Piñera, including the sale of his by him and by researchers on his works.

Reading poetry sessions have been held in order to encourage the approach to local literature, as well as short stories readings, literary meetings and meetings with members of César Vallejo literaryworkshop. The work of several children's literature projects, such as Once upon a time and My sun has also been presented.

Ismaray Hernández Machado, a cultural activist, said that several literary activities have been carried out during the summer, among them, book mini-fairs in outlying and remote communities, and tributes to local writers.

Since August 2000, when the first six titles were presented, and after a process of renewal in the equipment, the Ávila editorial has published over 300 books mainly by local authors, as well as works from other provinces.

Among the volumes stand out those of poetry, which is the genre of greater presence, but there are also short stories, novels and history books as well as stories for children and young people. Many of the books have been granted national and foreign awards.

Avilanians authors stress the importance of the publishing project to publish their works and the influence on the development and consolidation of the literature created in the territory.
