invasorThe Journalism required by the country in view of the challenges entailed by the updating of the economic model in Cuba will be the topic for the debates to be conducted by press experts and professionals of the country in the central province of Ciego de Ávila.

Sponsored by the National National Association of Cuban Economists (NACE) and the Association of Cuban Journalists (ACJ), the VI Economic Journalism Workshop will take place in May 20-22 in the capital city.

Zenaida Ferrer, the national vice president of ACJ, expressed that the meeting will provide an opportunity for improvement and reflection to those who presently write about such critical issues. 

As expressed Army General Raul Castro in the presentation of the central report to the Sixth Congress of the Party, "the Cuban press has to play a decisive role in the objective clarification and dissemination, constant and critical, of the progress undergone by the updating of the economic model, so that a culture may be promoted on these issues."

Hence, among the workshop topics are included the challenges of community journalism to address these issues, and obstacles that limit the profession.

Strategic actions will be presented so the two organizations may contribute to the systematic preparation of journalists in economic matters.

According to organizers, participants will share with managers and business representatives and tour production and service units of Ciego de Ávila.

Ferrer said that the Avilanian press is distinguished by the usual and profound treatment of economic issues, therefore the selection as host of the Sixth Workshop.

Meanwhile, María Isabel Córdova, the national vice president of NACE, expressed that all over the country there are work agreements with the ACJ delegations, and also courses, clubs and workshops for the preparation of these professionals.

Córdova added that the relationship between NACE and ACJ in the case of Ciego de Ávila is very strong, as evidenced in the implementation of these meetings since 2000.
