Cuba celebrates World Youth Day today with a message of peace and the certainty that a better world is posible.
Member of the National Bureau of the Young Communist League (UJC), Osnay Miguel Colina, said that this will be a day of joy, reflection and assertion.
He said it will be also a day to fight inequality, unemployment and secure the future of new generations.
During a press conference, he noted that 10 youngsters worldwide have AIDS, 80 million fail to get enough income to live on and 100 cannot start school.
He said Cuban youth constitutes 20 percent of the Cuban population and is broadly protected and involved in State decision-making in the country, which allocates over 50 percent of the expenses to free health and education.
The youth is the guarantee of the future, but in a world overwhelmed by economic crisis, violence and exclusion hit the new generations mercilessly, said the UJC leader. (PL)
