onuCuba reiterated at the United Nations that the full respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs is one of the elements to be considered in the concept of Human Security.

In addition, the non-use or threat of force and the exclusion of new legal obligations by the United States, said the first secretary of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the UN, Nadieska Navarro, speaking before the General Assembly.

She said that another requirement is the need to recognize that the political, economic, social and cultural conditions vary depending on the countries and that they are the ones who design and implement their responses according to their realities.

She reiterated that to Cuba the major global threats against Human Security are the arms race and the danger of nuclear war, climate change and the persistence of an unjust and inoperative international economic order.

There cannot exist Human Security without sustainable development, nor as long as it exists food and energy insecurity, said Navarro.

The maximum UN body on Monday discussed a report by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on consultations with a view to defining the new concept. (PL)
