Cuba has denounced that the US government has been placing repeated obstacles over the last two decades to keep it from purchasing the inhaling agent SEVOFLURANE, an excellent medication for general anaesthetics for children.
The medication from the Abbott Laboratories is recognized as a protector against heart attacks, ischemia and arrhythmia during surgical actions in patients with heart diseases, said Humberto Saenz Cabrera, president of the Cuban Anaesthesiology Association.
Doctor Saenz Cabrera told Cuban newspaper Granma that another efficient medication called Dexmetomidine, which is used in anaesthesiology, mainly because of its analgesic properties, also has its sale in Cuba forbidden.
On the eve of the 9th Cuban Congress of Anaesthesiology to take place from May 11 to 13 at the National Hotel, Doctor Saenz said the US blockade is "knocking at all the doors" in our society, icluding pharmaceuticals, equipment and techniques for the health system.
Official data estimate the economic damage caused to the Cuban people by the US blockade at over 751 billion dollars in 50 years. (PL)
